Every living thing
Every living thing on earth needs water,
liquid, tangible, wet,
even that tiny patch of black
on desert sand
that formed its world
as a kind of sponge,
that holds the water
that came so briefly –
like love, perhaps,
felt once and held as memory
somehow sustenance,
against all odds
